The St. Lucia Villa Book
The Caribbean
|
St. Lucia, known as the ?Helen? of the Caribbean, is famous for its dramatic physical beauty. Towering green mountains covered in lush tropical forest form a backdrop to the beautiful white sand beaches. Although just 27 miles long and 14 miles wide, due to its mountainous landscape, most of the villas and hotels occupy just a few areas, mainly in the west and north-west of the island. Many are on Cap Estate, which offers privacy and beautiful views, yet easy access to beaches, water sports facilities, golf and tennis. One of our villas is close to Soufrière, the oldest town on the island. Here you can visit the world?s only ?drive-in? volcano, La Soufrière, and its sulphur springs, as well as the famous and dramatic twin peaks, The Pitons.
Although most of our accommodation includes the services of a cook, you will probably want to visit the local open air market with their irresistible selection of tropical fruit, vegetables and fish, as well as basketware, pottery hand-screen and batik clothing. The National Rain Forest, comprising 19,000 acres, is a delight for bird watchers, hikers and nature lovers alike. The island was disputed between the British and French for over a hundred years and various fortresses remain, as well as other remnants of both cultures, notably the French influence on the local ?patois? which is spoken, not to mention the delicious Creole cuisine.
There are direct flights from the UK. to Hewanorra International Airport in the south of the island, or from the U.S.A. to Vigie on the north-west coast. Upon arrival, transfers and can be arranged direct to the villa, or alternatively, a rental car can be reserved either to meet your flight or delivered to the villa.
