This striking property in the heart of the Douro Valley World Heritage Site, offers luxurious accommodation, while benefitting from spectacular vistas of steep vineyard terraces so typical of the region. It is located on the edge of the peaceful rural hamlet of Gouvães do Douro, where the most exciting moment of the day is the arrival of the bread delivery van in the morning! There is very little in the way of developed tourism in the area, yet plenty to explore and enjoy: from wine tasting and excellent restaurants (both simple and sophisticated), to nature walks and a river cruise.
The accommodation is split on two levels and includes a spacious open plan living/dining room, three en-suite bedrooms, plus a games room with snooker table. Amenities include two Satellite TVs ( in the sitting room and games room); two DVD players; DVD library for guest use, two music systems and wi-fi internet Air conditioning and heating as required are also included in the price. Outside, there is a charming salt-treated swimming pool with ladder access (approx 6 x 5m, shallow-end 1,15 m, deep-end 1,40 m) with a furnished panoramic terrace. Breakfast is included every day and for summertime rentals, one meal per week catered for by Luisa, who is specialist in local gastronomy. A baby cot and high chair can be provided on request.
Guests are presented with free vouchers for the Douro museum plus a visit to one of the Port producing quintas with wine tasting. It is also possible to organize a private boat cruise; and not to be missed is the unforgettable trip up-river from Pinhão to Foz Tua on the historic steam train: never leaving the riverside and passing Douro quintas and dam locks, with the landscape of terraced vineyards changing to dramatic rocky outcrops. Durations of less than one week are accepted out of high season (3 nights minimum).
