Riad Ferdinand is peacefully hidden away behind high ochre walls in the network of labyrinthine alleyways of the Medina; yet it is only a five minutes walk through some of the best the Souks of the Mouassine area to the colourful Jemma el Fna square.
Once through the wooden entrance door, you soon forget about the bustling Medina outside, as you enter into a charming courtyard with tall graceful Moorish arches, palm trees and comfy seating. This private house has been sympathetically restored by its friendly, young French owners who have managed to retain many of its original features and combined them with a contemporary and stylish décor. Their love of travel is reflected in the eclectic choice of their furnishings; traditional Moroccan artefacts rub shoulders with colourful objets d’art and prints collected from around the world. Surrounding the courtyard on the ground floor are two tastefully decorated double bedrooms, including a duplex with an extra sofa bed and bath and wc. A stylish dining room also leads off the courtyard and has an open fireplace, perfect for a cosy candlelit dinner. The four remaining bedrooms are located on the first floor and are equally comfortable and attractive, with the added benefit of air-conditioning.
There are no shortage of cosy corners in which to sit, relax or read in; the downstairs courtyard, or in the cosy library with its good stock of interesting pictorial books about Morocco or in the small open lounge on the first floor. Alternatively you could sit beside the riad’s small splash pool, dip your toes in the water and enjoy a fruit cocktail or retreat to the roof terrace to enjoy the lovely views and the distant Atlas Mountains. Minimum stay 3 nights stays (except Christmas/New Year when minimum 4 nights required).
