Tucked away behind the old city walls, this authentic 17th century riad enjoys a wonderful central location close to the main square, the bustling Souks and the town’s historic Clock Tower. From the third-floor roof terrace there are sweeping views across the rooftops of the ancient Medina to the beach and sea. This unique family residence is built over three floors and was once the home of a Portuguese wine merchant. It still maintains many of the original features; impressive five metre high ceilings, an original wine cellar with vaulted stone arches, huge wooden panelled doors and large French windows with colourful cut glass, which keep the house bright and airy. A spiral stone staircase leads up to a splendid entrance hall with a dining and low seating area, which all surround a central fountain. Also located on this floor, is an attractive lounge, the kitchen and the master bedroom with its adjoining bathroom. The remaining two double bedrooms are situated on the second floor and share a shower, as does a small child’s room. Riad Oporto has been decorated by Moroccan artisans using traditional materials and has been furnished with simplicity and style by its current European owners. Large mirrors, colourful Moroccan rugs, local ceramic vases and antique inlaid wooden furniture all combine to capture the essence of a bygone era. Minimum 3 nights stays except at Christmas and New Year when a minimum of 5 nights is required (and 7 nights during the June Gnaou Festival – dates to be advised).
