This delightful small riad is ideally located in the centre of the old whitewashed Medina, close to the lively Souks, spice market, restaurants and cafés and just a short walk from the golden sandy beach. Built over four floors, Dar Kia offers comfortable accommodation with plenty of space for relaxation. One of the English owners is an interior designer, and she fell in love with this handsome 18th century house (or ‘dar’ in Moroccan) and has restored and decorated it with great style, using shades of blue and white, reflecting the town’s Portuguese heritage. Against these restful hues, traditional Moroccan crafted features, such as tadelakt walls, zelliges tiles and bejmat floors, all combine to create a stylish and peaceful retreat.
On the ground floor, stone arches surround a seating area and library, with a beautiful alabaster fountain at its centre. The three en suite bedrooms are simply but tastefully furnished and are situated on the first floor and over look the central patio. Windows are draped in cotton haiks, the white wraps worn by the local women. Stairs lead to the second floor, to the kitchen and to a secluded roof terrace with plants, where Zara the housekeeper, serves breakfast each morning. On request and for a small fee she will also cook some delicious Moroccan evening meals.
A separate door leads into a charming lounge with open fireplace and comfy sofas, where you can listen to music or watch television. Above there is a smaller terrace with sun loungers, where guests can relax and soak up some sunshine whilst listening to the sounds of the Medina and enjoying the fascinating views across the rooftops. Dar Kia is large enough accommodate a family of six and a child but is also cosy enough and thoroughly romantic for just one couple. Minimum 3 nights stays except at Christmas and New Year when a minimum of 5 nights is required (and 7 nights during the June Gnaou Festival).
