Situated just 20m away from the famous Sqala, the old fortified ramparts of the city which overlook the Atlantic Ocean, this imposing 18th century house offers spacious accommodation in the heart of the Medina. Casa Sibylla was once the Brazilian Consulate, at a time when Essaouira was enjoying its heyday as one of the most important trading ports along the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Centred around a large bright and airy interior courtyard with high ceilings, a huge old wooden door, a colonnaded dining area and comfortable seating, this lovely house has been sympathetically renovated whilst retaining many of its original features; soaring stone arches, intricately crafted ironwork, beautiful coloured glass windows and traditional bejmat tiling.
Of the four bedrooms which are all situated on the first floor, only one double bedded room has its own private en suite shower room; whilst the other 3 bedrooms (2 good-size doubles and one small twin bedroom) all share a large separate bathroom. In addition, there is a charming interconnecting small lounge (with an extra bed), plus another small room with a child’s bed (which adjoins the first double room mentioned). The décor is clean and simple, with white walls providing a restful backdrop to the colourful bed covers, lamps and accessories. On the third floor there is a spacious roof terrace where guests can relax and enjoy the sunshine, and catch a glimpse of the sea, through the crenulated sea walls.
Najia the friendly and competent housekeeper comes into prepare your breakfast each morning and she can also prepare tasty Moroccan dinners if you prefer to eat in one evening (on request). Alternatively, there is an interesting choice of lively restaurants and cafes just around the corner. With its spacious accommodation and excellent location, charming Casa Sibylla makes an ideal choice for both families and a small group of friends. Minimum 3 nights stays except at Christmas and New Year when a minimum of 5 nights is required (and 7 nights during the June Gnaou Festival ).
