The estate of La Foce is situated in the hills overlooking the beautiful Val d'Orcia, in Southern Tuscany, midway between Florence and Rome. Renaissance and medieval gems such as Pienza, Montepulciano, Monticchiello and Montalcino are only a few miles away, and the property is also within easy reach of Siena, Arezzo, Perugia, Assisi and Orvieto. The area offers lovely walks among woods, and the characteristic crete senesi, cultural events and excellent food and wine, including the famous Vino Nobile and Brunello. Castelluccio, a medieval castle only 1 mile away, is the venue for the well-known music festival Incontri in Terra di Siena.
Villa Montauto is one of the farmhouses available to rent on the La Foce estate. It sits in a very private location, surrounded by woods and fields, with spectacular views of the countryside and of Castelluccio. Its architecture is in typical Tuscan style and very spacious, built around a central courtyard which provides delightful privacy for outdoor dining amongst a profusion of flowers. The garden offers several different spaces, including two outdoor dining areas, a barbecue terrace under old oak trees, and quiet spots for reading and enjoying the views. Beautiful walks into the surrounding countryside can be taken directly from the property.
The owner originally restored this house for herself and her family, and it is furnished with lovely antique furniture, many books, local pottery, terracotta floors and ancient stone fireplaces. The house has been refurbished extensively in 2006. The ground floor, originally stables and storage rooms, has been turned into a most attractive open-plan kitchen/dining room, while two of the ground floor bedrooms open onto the courtyard. On the first floor is a large living room with antique stone fireplace and three more bedrooms. Amenities include TV and stereo. There is a swimming pool (12 x 6 m), on a terrace just below the house, with wonderful views of the pines and cypresses of La Foce and the Amiata mountain beyond. It is protected by a wooden gate making the garden safe for small children. There is a tennis court on the estate and the court can be booked at the office.
