This magnificent villa, dating from the late 15th century and once the home of the Machiavelli family, is set in glorious Tuscan countryside amongst acres of the estate’s own vineyards, olive groves and forest. Just 12 kilometres south of Florence, not far from Greve in Chianti. Built by Cardinal Francesco Maria Machiavelli, uncle of Niccolò Machiavelli, it is said that the Renaissance master, Michelangelo, even had a hand in the design. The property benefits from uninterrupted views over the Tuscan landscape, as far as Florence, just 12 kilometres away. The Duomo and Giotto’s bell tower can both be seen in the distance, framed by archways, from the villa’s stunning furnished loggia.
Bought by its new owner in 2000, the Villa Machiavelli has been restored to all its former splendour and offers a wonderful combination of old world hospitality in historical surroundings, with modern comforts, and fine wines and olive oil produced on the estate. The beautiful gardens surrounding the villa has outdoor sculptures by artists from the owner’s native Zimbabwe. The sumptuous suites, adorned with 17th and 18th century frescoes, include the Royal Suite, approximately 180 m2 with high ceilings and large windows overlooking the sculpture gardens, vineyards and countryside. This suite has its own private dining area and marble bathroom with walk-in steam room.
The property is part of an exclusive hotel, Villa Mazzei, which also offers an additional 19 rooms, set apart to the rear of main villa, in a restored vineyard villa. The two villas each has its own private garden and swimming pool. Guests at Villa Machiavelli can enjoy the hotel’s facilities, including an indoor wellness spa, the Naduschka Spa, with a heated swimming pool, steam room, sauna, relaxation area, treatment rooms and a small gym. Rates include a special Tuscan welcome which comprises a welcome cocktail, fresh fruit and a bottle of the estate's wine. Also included is full buffet breakfast each day, complimentary use of the Naduschka Spa facilities, and private dining locations and butler service. Breakfast and dinner is served in the restaurant, and the herb garden during the summer months. Lunch is served by the infinity pool. On request, private dinners can be arranged in the wine cellar. The property has a private helicopter landing pad, and transfers can also be arranged from Florence airport or railway station. A daily complimentary shuttle service is offered from the property to Florence and back. The property is ideally suited for weddings and other special functions. Cooking lessons with an English speaking executive chef and wine tastings are also available on request.
