This wonderful seaside holiday home is one of two houses situated in a private estate in the middle of the Natural Reserve of the Belice Valley, in the south of Sicily. It is right on the edge of a pristine, private long sandy beach, with the waves of the sea as the only background noise. Quiet and peaceful, it is also within easy reach of many nearby attractions, including the archaeological park of the ancient Greek town of Selinunte (the biggest in Europe), a 20 minute drive away. Agrigento is a 45 minute drive and Palermo approximately 1 ½ hours. The house is owned by a well known Italian architect, and has been built in full respect of the environment, so that it is hidden in the landscape. It is surrounded by 15 hectares of informal Mediterranean park-like grounds with different kinds of palms, eucalyptus, oleanders and olive trees. There is also a fenced area with some animals (ducks, peacocks, moufflons and horses). There are several large furnished terraces, including an inner courtyard and a terrace overlooking the sea, a wonderful spot for enjoying an evening aperitif at most times of year. A dining terrace has a barbecue and a large brick oven. There is also a gazebo with table tennis, and outdoor shower and, by the beach, a cabin with deck chairs and sunshades for the beach. The fine, golden sand of the beach is perfect for long walks. Inside, the rooms are spacious, with terracotta floors and beamed ceilings and furnished in a rustic, comfortable style. There is a fireplace in the living/dining room and air condtitioning in the living room and the main bedroom. Another bedroom has a ceiling fan. Further amenities include a television, DVD and stereo. The drinking water in the house is provided by spring water, but tastes slightly salty. If guests don't like this, they may prefer to buy bottled water.
