This historic property is situated in a wonderfully quiet and rural position, in the east of the island, surrounded by farmland. Catania and Siracuse are both approximately 30 kms away, and a number of beaches are also within a half hour drive, such as the Baia di Arcile, the Lido di Noto and the Riserva di Verndicari. The views from the property extend over the countryside as far as the sea in the distance, and also to Mt. Etna.
Built as a typical Sicilian masseria, around a large courtyard of 900 m2 , the house is surrounded by a large lawned garden, including a formal Italian garden and many species of plants. Beyond this the grounds consist of orange groves, olive groves and farmland. As well as a rich variety of Mediterranean plants and trees, of particular interest are the ancient caves within the grounds, dating back to the Castellucciana (pre-Greek) civilization. Some examples of the archaeological remains which have been excavated from here are on show at the property. The house is approached up a driveway to an arched entrance into the courtyard. Opposite this is a large leisure area with swimming pool (18 x 9m), a spa with Turkish bath and shower, a summer kitchen, outdoor dining area and poolside accommodation with 2 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.
The other 10 bedrooms are all in the main part of the house, all accessed independently directly from the main courtyard. All have been decorated, furnished and equipped to a high standard with all modern amenities, yet retaining traditional features, such as exposed stone work, beamed ceilings and arches. The bathrooms are all brand new, and towelling bathrobes and toiletries are provided. All the bedrooms have TV and air conditioning/heating. At one end of the courtyard, there is entrance to the main living accommodation with living room, dining room and a well equipped kitchen. There is also a chapel, off the courtyard. There is a cook at the villa and a welcome dinner is available on request. Activities which can be arranged locally include horse riding and cookery lessons.
