This simply styled, but quirky, home is situated in the pretty white-washed village of Megalochori, approximately 9 kms from the main town of Fira. Renovated from an 18th century canava, the interiors are characterized by the traditional high, vaulted ceilings and clean, white paintwork, but with some fun and interesting touches added, including pottery from the local village potter, reflecting the taste and personality of the owner, an Australian chef. The unspoilt village of Megalochori is characterized by its central square, with its quaint cobbled footpaths spiralling out, and serving as a gathering place for locals to play cards or backgammon. The village also boasts a variety of exceptional restaurants and tavernas. An open-plan living and dining area integrates well with the master bedroom and bathroom with sunken bathtub and stone shower. The cosy guest bedroom and en-suite bathroom is separate from the main living area and overlooks the courtyard, with colourful bougainvillea vines. The kitchen opens to the courtyard, furnished for dining and relaxing outdoors. There are views from the property over the village to the sea. Amenities include plasma screen satellite TV, DVD, B & O stereo and high speed internet access. Included in the rental price is a 5-seater manual car rental and an welcome food hamper. Other services available on request include transfers from and to the airport/port and a private chef. Minimum stay here is 3 nights.
