Naxos is situated in the centre of the Cyclades, in front of Paros, and near Mykonos. It is the largest island in this group of islands. It is popular for its natural beauty, with impressive mountain ranges and endless sandy beaches, one of which, Prokopios, has been voted as Europe’s most beautiful beach.

It is the nuptial isle of the god Dionysus and has the highest mountain of the group, Mount Zas. The island was for many centuries under the rule of the Venetians and there is much evidence of its fascinating history in its Venetian capital, Naxos town, its ruins of ancient temples and its Byzantine churches.

Like the other Cycladic islands, it is characterized by its very pretty white-washed villages its quaint fishing ports with local tavernas, and its fields of fruit and olive trees. But unlike some of its neighbouring islands, it remains relatively unsophisticated and traditional.
