The exceptional country residence we have for rent here is situated on 120 acres of land in the heart of the Corbières, just 26 kms west of Carcassonne. There are many excellent wineries in the region which include the AOCs of Corbières , Fitou and Minervois. There are also several chateaux that produce popular export quality wines, and a wide choice of restaurants.

The annual Carcassone summer festival is now established as one of the premier events in southern France. In the summer months music festivals are prolific and the Céret Museum of Modern Art exhibits the works of Picasso, Chagall, Matisse, Miro and many others.

There are a number of excellent beaches within easy reach of the property, such as La Franqui and Leucate-plage, that still retain a certain charm and offer excellent white sand as well as wind and kite surfing. Further south, there are nice beaches from Collioure towards the Spanish border with local villages of great character
.
There are many places where you can swim. One above the village of Labastide is a pristine
lake surrounded by trees and short grass. Also at Ribaute you can swim in the water-falls under the medieval bridge. The hill sides are covered with easy trails from which to enjoy the splendid scenery and explore the ancient ruins that dot the area.

The Canal du Midi is a 150 mile long canal from Toulouse to the Mediterranean. Beautiful and languid, it is lined on both sides by plane trees. You can rent a barge and cruise along through dappled light.

For sports activities, there is an international standard golf course in Carcassone with great views of the old city. The area is also a Mecca for enthusiasts of riding, rafting and canoeing, fishing, hiking and rock climbing. Mountain bikes are available at the house and the terrain is ideal for all levels of experience and energy. The Bapteme d L’Air is a light plane tour from the airstrip by Lezignan-Corbières that lets you see the main Cathar castles in hours rather than days.
